Charles K. Byer

Charles K. Byer, age 95, passed away on December 27, 2025, after an extended illness.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Gilkey Byer. He was also preceded by his parents, Kenneth L. Byer and Teresa Vanco Byer, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Donna Byer.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Susie Byer; John Byer and Mary Grimm. Charles will also be fondly remembered by extended family members and many friends.

Charles graduated from Middleport High School and proudly served his country as a Korean War veteran. He later retired from OVEC (Ohio Valley Electric Corporation) at the Kyger Creek Plant after many years of dedicated service.

In his later years, Charles devoted himself to caring for his wife, Helen, during her extended illness—a role he fulfilled with deep love and devotion. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and enjoyed spending time at home, especially tinkering with vehicles.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Fairhope Hospice and Arbors of Carroll for their compassionate and loving care. Special appreciation is also extended to dear friends Ralph and Mary Talbert, and Bob Mills, for their kindness and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Charles to Heath United Methodist Church, Middleport, or to the Middleport High School Alumni Association.

Charles will be remembered for his quiet strength, loyalty to family, and the care he showed to those he loved.

Graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Riverview Cemetery in Middleport.    Military Honors will be presented.    Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home.
