Donald Crary Mora, most recently of Saukville, WI, passed away August 21, 2025. He was born to Pearl H. Mora and Maye (Crary) Mora on the family farm located on Route 7 near Pomeroy, OH.
Donald was predeceased by wife Barbara (Murry)1998-2021 and wife Mary Joyce (Maidie) (Hayes) 1948-1996; and sons David H. (Sarah) 2022 and Mark L. 2021. Donald and Maidie's surviving family includes Sally (Gary) Gibson of Cincinnati, Rhea (Les Dyer) (Harry deceased) Slawter of Grafton, WI. and Mary (Robert) Troup of Liberty Township, OH.
Patriarch of five generations, Donald was proud of five children and six grandchildren including Bryan (Lisa) Ingels, Columbus, OH; Amy (Gene) Kenny, Milwaukee, WI.; Lisa (Jeremy) Volkening, Oshkosh, WI.; Ay (Erek) Perry, Bowie, MD; and Daniel and Elizabeth Troup, Liberty Township, OH. The fourth and fifth generations include fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grands.
Graduating from Chester High School as Valedictorian, Donald knew, even as a very young man, that he wanted to work on the Mora farm and have a family. His goal was to improve the soil, to introduce new farming techniques, build up his herd of registered Guernsey cattle and ensure that the historic barn on the farm would last for generations to come. Donald was an involved parent, supporting his family in many community groups: Grange, 4-H, Better Livestock, SE OH Guernsey Association, Soil Conservation Board, FHA Board, Eastern School Board, Sunday school teacher and the children's school activities. There was a little time for hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing. He loved a good game of pool and enjoyed the camaraderie of the local Gun Club and Eagles.
A decision that was finalized in 1978, to transition from being a dairy farmer, was one of the hardest of his life. This decision allowed him to start a new chapter. He began full-time employment with the Meigs County Department of Human Services as an Income Maintenance Supervisor II at the county Welfare Office. After completing ten years, he retired and never worked away from the farm again.
After living in Meigs County for 94 years, enduring the loss of his parents, two wives and a son, Donald decided to sell the farm to another young farm family. He relocated to Wisconsin and was proud of living independently at an assisted living facility. He enjoyed the loving care and companionship of his daughter Rhea and the extended Wisconsin family.
Visitation will be at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home, Pomeroy from 11-12:30pm followed by his final service at 1:00pm. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Meigs County Schools Food Pantry.
