Edna Stobart

Edna Catherine Stobart (neé Shuler), born on October 12, 1932 in Letart Falls, Ohio, passed away peacefully to join her Lord and Savior following a short illness at her home in Miami, FL, July 21, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Edward Earl Stobart of Antiquity, Ohio and her parents, Guy Howard Shuler and Mary Margaret Boies Shuler, Letart Falls, Ohio. 

Edna is survived by her daughters, Karolea Kim Stobart Snider and husband Lee Snider; and Cheri Kaye Stobart Wheeler and husband Richard Wheeler. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Angela Christine Snider Mejia, husband Mario Mejia; and their children, Matthew Daniel Mejia and Alysia Carolyn Rosales, all of Miami; and Shawn Douglas Wheeler and his wife, Jasmine Wheeler of Orlando, Florida. Edna’s extended family includes brother, Robert Farrell Shuler and his family of Sevierville, Tennessee and sister, Sherrie Ilene Shuler, previously married to William Gene Dillon, and her family of Bloomington, Indiana and France. Additionally, several cousins and their families survive and reside in Ohio. 

Edna was born into high-drama from her first day. She was a premature, “blue baby,” thrust into the world weeks early by scarlet fever, contracted by her mother at the funeral of a young nephew. The family was quarantined together in those pre-antibiotic 1932 days and told to expect the worst possible outcome. Amazingly, both mother and baby lived and additional family members escaped the dreaded, frequently deadly, disease. A few years later, Edna contracted rheumatic fever and, bedridden, missed an entire year of elementary school. In later years, she recalled watching her young cousins playing outside and longing to be with them during her illness and recovery. Despite heart damage from the fever, and contrary to medical predictions, Edna lived a long life. She would have been 94 on her next birthday just 4 months later. 

Edna graduated from Racine High School in the spring of 1951, l where she was an active cheerleader, the same year her younger sister was born. A naturally nurturing person, Edna lovingly tended to her younger brother and baby sister with the same dedication and tenderness that she would later pour into her own daughters and grandchildren. Following her marriage to Eddie on August 29, 1952 and his subsequent enlistment in the Air Force, the couple moved to South Dakota; and while Eddie was stationed in Guam during the Korean War, Edna moved back home to Middleport, Ohio to await his return and the arrival of their first daughter, Karolea Kim (“KK”) born in 1958. Shortly after his return and the birth of their first child, he was hired by National Airlines and the family transferred to Miami where Eddie spent his career at the Miami International Airport. In Miami, they welcomed a “sunshine baby” late in life, Cheri Kaye. 

Edna had a wonderful sense of humor and was full of antics that created a storehouse of memories for her family. She loved children and was extremely tender-hearted, teaching kindergarten during her thirties. Affectionately called Grandma Ainee by her grandchildren, Edna dedicated her life to her two girls, her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren throwing elaborate birthday parties and treasuring each child’s unique accomplishments. 

Throughout her 93 years, she had many interests, including dealing in antique jewelry and writing poetry. She was keenly interested in the culture of her high school years, in all things Elvis, bobby socks, and saddle shoes. She was a student of the culture of her times, collecting autographs and memorabilia of Hollywood stars, savoring old movies, and enjoying vintage fashions. 

Her passions included a life-long love of reading and writing poetry and an avid interest in gardening. Because she lived most of her adult life in the tropical climate of South Florida, she treasured her exotic plants and trees, and everything thrived under her care. 

Included in her genealogical treasures is a certification authorizing her membership as a “Sister” in the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, Inc., Circle No. 104 of Middleport, Ohio of Sergeant Alexander Hamilton Shuler. This honor passed to her through her paternal great grandfather, Alexander Hamilton Shuler, who served honorably in the Civil War. She treasured this connection, which was fitting for one who respected and honored her ancestry and those who had gone before. She will be greatly missed by all who mourn the passing of this gentle, loving soul. Her memory will be blessed by all who knew her. 

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 3pm at the Chapel at Letart Falls Cemetery.
