Jack Freeman

Jack B. Freeman, 91, of Middleport passed away Thursday evening, August 20, 2026, at Arbors Nursing Home, Pomeroy.

He was born on September 3, 1934, in New Cumberland, W. Va. to Edward and Florence (Sherry) Freeman.

Jack and his family moved to Cheshire, Ohio in the early 1950s.  At the young age of sixteen he began working with his father and brothers in the mining industry.  For most of those years he was a dozer operator. Jack was a self taught guitar player and in his younger days he played for many Saturday night dances or getting together with friends for an evening of pickin’.  He was also a member of the United Mine Workers and a Free Mason.

In his later years he enjoyed reading westerns, especially Louis L’Amour, and watching his favorite TV shows.  He always looked forward to phone calls and visits with family and friends and enjoyed sharing stories from his childhood and working days.

Jack is survived by daughters, Sheila(David) Ferguson, Tell City, IN, Jacqueline Walburn, Middleport,  and stepdaughters Laura Wells, Weirton, WV, Lola (Myron) Carson, Arcanum, Ohio, and stepson Michael (Melinda) Cleland, Pomeroy.   Grandchildren Shane Ferguson, Tell City, IN, Rachel Walburn, Sebring, FL, Cheyenne “Rose” Walburn, Gallipolis, OH., plus several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, and a niece. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dolores(Hudson)Freeman and his brothers Richard K. And Robert K. Freeman.

In accordance with Jack’s wishes, cremation is being handled by Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home.  There will be a private graveside service at a later date with burial at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
