Naomi Hawes Obituary

Naomi Ruth Bissell Hawes, a beautifully sweet soul who brought warmth and light to everyone she met, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 17, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. She has returned home to be with her Lord.

Born on October 13, 1951, in Meigs County, Ohio, Naomi was the cherished daughter of Charles Lewis and Margaret Kathryn (Singer) Bissell. Growing up as the 11th of 13 children, she learned early on the value of deep family bonds, a lesson she carried with her throughout a life defined by selflessness and devotion to others.

Naomi graduated from Eastern High School in Reedsville, Ohio, in 1969. A gentle leader with a servant’s heart, she served as a class officer and was an active, vibrant part of her school community. Her high school years were filled with connection and achievement, spanning the National Honor Society, yearbook and newspaper staffs, choir, intramural, serving as a librarian, and being honored as a homecoming attendant.

Following her school years, Naomi brought her characteristic dedication and loyalty to Western & Southern Insurance Company, where she built a fulfilling 30-year career before her well-earned retirement.

To know Naomi was to know pure kindness. She possessed a rare and gentle grace, always choosing to look for and celebrate the good in people. She never met a stranger, and she always had a comforting, encouraging word ready for anyone who needed it. A selfless caregiver and unwavering pillar of support, she quietly looked after many family members over the years, putting their needs above her own without a second thought.

Her life was anchored by her profound love for God and her family. Naomi found deep joy in the simple, beautiful gifts of life. She loved studying her Bible, spending quiet moments observing nature, and taking long walks in the cool of a gentle Spring evening. She delighted in the unique beauty of all four seasons, stayed active working out at the gym, and loved a good mental challenge, whether playing Sudoku or connecting with loved ones over Words with Friends.

Naomi’s legacy of love lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted son, Shawn Price and his partner Delcie Clonch; her former spouses, Keith Hawes and Paul Price; her siblings, Frona Riffle, Ada (Curtis) Randolph, Delbert Bissell (Joyce LaRue), Douglas (Carolyn) Bissell, Glen (Melissa) Bissell, David (Nancy) Bissell, and Robert (Sally) Bissell; as well numerous loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was joyfully reunited in Heaven with her parents; her beloved grandson, Devin Price; and her siblings, Charles Daniel Bissell, Roger Bissell, Dwight Bissell, Karen Bowcott, and Helen Garverick.

Naomi's gentle spirit, radiant kindness, and beautiful soul left an indelible mark on this world. She will be missed beyond measure by the family and friends who were blessed to love her.

Graveside services will be held on Monday September 21, 2026,  1:00 PM at the Chester Cemetery with Pastor Mark Miteria officiating.
