Patricia “Patty” Schaekel, 80, of Chester, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2025, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Born on November 26, 1944, in Mason, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Irene (Hartung) McGrath.
Above all else, Patty was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a woman of unwavering faith. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul, and her life was a living testimony to His grace. A spiritual mentor and prayer warrior, Patty was a source of strength and guidance to many, always ready to listen, comfort, and pray with anyone in need. It was truly her greatest joy.
Patty is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Edward A. Schaekel, Jr., of Chester, Ohio, and her children: Jim Schaekel of Atlanta, Georgia, and Aaron Schaekel and Jodie Schaekel, both of Chester. She is also survived by her siblings: sister Barb (Jerry) Hart of Guysville; brother Ron (Tanowa) McGrath of Coolville; and brother Harold McGrath of Chester.
She leaves behind beloved sisters and brothers -in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, brothers Tommy McGrath, Jr. and infant Roger McGrath, niece Tina Goode, and her parents and grandparents.
Patty spent some years working at Holzer Clinic in Pomeroy, but her true calling was ministering to others. Whether through a kind word, a heartfelt prayer, or simply offering her time, Patty lived her faith out loud. She was happiest when her home was full of family, love, and the presence of God. Her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be on September 16th from 4p-6p with a short service to follow beginning at 6pm at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. There will be no graveside service nor reception afterward. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to Legacy Christian Academy Scholarship Fund by visiting Give - The Rock and selecting “LCA Scholarship” under the “select fund” drop-down.
