Robert "Bob" Sloan

Robert W. "Bob" Sloan, 88, of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away on September 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 12, 1938, at his parents' home in Pomeroy, Bob was the beloved son of the late Wayne and Belva Sloan.

Bob was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Grover. Family was at the center of Bob's life, and the love he had for those around him was evident in everything he did.

A lifelong son of Pomeroy, Bob graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1957. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in July 1963.

Bob built a life defined by hard work and the skill of his own two hands. He worked as a handyman for Jaymar Coal Company until health concerns led to his retirement. Perhaps his proudest work was the home he built himself for his family, the house where he and Karen raised their three children.

In 1967, Bob married the love of his life, Karen S. (Walker) Sloan. Together they built a beautiful family and shared nearly 60 years of memories, challenges, laughter, and love. Their marriage was a testament to a lifelong commitment to one another.

Faith and service were important parts of Bob's life. He was a proud member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church, where he and Karen raised their children in the church, and for the past 38 years he was a member of the Pomeroy American Legion.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Karen; his three children, Tim (Nina) Sloan, Angie (John) Gleason, and Chris (Merica) Sloan; and his cherished grandchildren, Ian, Annaliese, Jessica, Anthony, and Grayson.

To his family, Bob was so much more than a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a source of strength, wisdom, love, and guidance, someone whose presence made a difference simply by being there. His hands built a home, but his heart built a family, and that is the legacy he leaves behind.

His family will forever carry the lessons he taught them, the stories he shared, the memories they made, and most importantly, the love he gave so freely.

Services will be held at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon. Services will begin at noon, with interment following at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire, Ohio.
