Shirley Fields Obituary

Shirley Elizabeth Fields, 90, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous 25-year battle with cancer.

Born on January 5, 1936, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, Shirley built a life centered on faith, family, service, and unwavering strength. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and lived her life guided by compassion, kindness, and perseverance.

For 30 years, Shirley dedicated her career to Pleasant Valley Hospital, where she served as a supervisor. She was respected by her colleagues for her leadership, professionalism, and genuine care for both patients and staff. Above all, she was a devoted military wife, proudly supporting her husband throughout their 56 years of marriage.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her loving children, David (Jackie) Fields, John Wayne (Janie) Fields, Jay (Beverly Roush) Fields and Audrey (Walter) Raynes

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: David Fields, Matthew (Nikki) Fields, Jason (Shari) Fields, Jenna (Robbie) Wildman, Lauryn (Colton) Neal, Whitney (Evan) Downey, Tory (Andy) Grimm, and Logan Raynes (Mason George); 13 treasured great-grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Galway; her beloved husband of 56 years, Glenn Fields; and several brothers and sisters and her best friend Joni

Shirley’s family will remember her for her enduring faith, incredible strength, selfless love, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. Her grace through life’s challenges and her love for her family will remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

May she rest in eternal peace.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 12:30pm at the Graham Cemetery, New Haven, WV with Father Don Horak officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 11-12:00pm at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy.
