Teresa Tyson-Drummer Obituary

Teresa Marie Tyson-Drummer, age 70 of Rutland, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, after a short illness at St. Mary's Medical Center, West Virginia.

Teresa was born on April 20, 1955, in Fostoria, Ohio to the late Max R. and Patricia J. (Minard) Tyson. She is survived by her daughter, Megan (Brad) Swisher; a daughter-in-law, Kelly Drummer; two brothers, Rock (Sharon) Tyson, Ret. Col. Dustin (Beth) Tyson; a sister, Angie (Bob) Williams; six grandchildren, Chandler Drummer (Nicole Clagg), Talon Drummer (Jarod Kennedy), Logan Drummer (Bryana Wallace), Arrow Drummer (Cassidy Roderus), Andy Doczi, VI (Ellie Scullin), and Reesa Doczi; a great-granddaughter, Amara Rae Drummer; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both of her sons, Carlton Geoffery Drummer and Aaron Michael Drummer. Also proceeding her in death was her beloved dog and companion, Tonka.

Teresa was the matriarch of her family, and she considered her children and her grandchildren as her greatest accomplishments. They were her life's most important work, and they are her legacy in this world. Teresa also had a tremendous passion for the great outdoors. She loved to hunt, fish, garden, and bird watch. Her favorite wilderness spot was at Popular Point Camp, on Elk Lake in Ontario, Canada. Her family spent most of their vacations there, and she continued to visit the area as an adult.

Throughout her life, Teresa did a little bit of everything. She graduated from Elmwood High School in 1973 where she was an accomplished majorette, played the clarinet in school band, played the piano for and sang in the choir, participated in several plays and musicals, and was on the volleyball and basketball teams. She entered flowers, floral arrangements, and baked good at the Wood County Fair winning lots of blue ribbons over the years. She was also crowned "Miss Wood County" at the fairgrounds' pageant. Later in life, she was a volleyball referee, her daughter's softball coach for three years, and a Girl Scout troop leader for eight years. Professionally, Teresa was a secretary for a law firm, a court reporter for the Court of Common Pleas in Meigs County, Ohio, and an adult probation officer for Meigs County. However, she spent most of her years working (the last 30), as an Administrative Coordinator/Specialist at Ohio University in Athens. She was very passionate and dedicated to this job, the facility, the faculty members, and all the students she met there over the years.

Teresa was an amazing lady. If you ever had the chance to meet her, it wouldn't take you long to realize that she was a very warm, kind, patient, determined to make a difference, kind of person.

She had a huge heart for family and friends, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Upon Teresa's request there will not be a memorial service held. At a later date, to honor her wishes, her family plans to have a Celebration of Life gathering.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Teresa's name to a charity of your choice.
