Virgil Carl

Virgil L. Carl, 83, of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 2, 2026, at Holzer Hospital. He was born December 23, 1942, at his family home in Pomeroy, Ohio, to the late Ralph Carl and Sadie Harrison Carl.

Virgil retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Meigs County after many years of dedicated service. A man of strong faith, he found great joy in attending church, worshiping with his church family, and sharing fellowship with friends and loved ones. Music was a special part of his life. He enjoyed playing the guitar both at home and at church and cherished the many years he spent playing alongside his mother as she accompanied him on the piano during church services.

In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Carl.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Barnett) Carl; his sons, Brett (Connie) Carl, Randy (Kimberly) Carl, and Danny Carl; and his daughter, Melodi Bell. He is also survived by his siblings, Eva Loraine (Duck) King and Rodney (Nancy) Carl.

Virgil leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Halle (Conde) Andrews, Kaytlin (Quinn) McCracken, Justin (Sheree) Wilson, Dylan (Rachel) Carl, and Kylee (Craig) Carl; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Everett McCracken, Walker Wilson, Nash Wilson, Theo Carl, Jordyn Carl, and Camryn Reese.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Paula (Carl) Harris, with whom he shared the same birth month and day. The two faithfully wished one another a happy birthday each year, a tradition that brought them both great joy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Carleton Church Cemetery.
