Virginia "Kitty" Kathleen Counts

Virginia Kathleen “Kitty” Counts passed away  on July 25, 2026.

Kitty was born on September 29, 1932, in Syracuse, Ohio, to Eva and Anthony Salser. On January 15, 1950, she married the love of her life, Victor Counts, and together they built a large, loving family that remained the center of her world.

Kitty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She cherished children and found great joy in shopping for her family and giving thoughtful gifts for every holiday. Christmas held a special place in her heart, and she truly believed in its magic. She made it her mission to ensure everyone felt remembered and loved, creating treasured memories and bringing joy to those around her year after year.

Family gatherings were among her greatest pleasures. She loved preparing big dinners and was especially known for her delicious homemade pies, which became a favorite tradition for many.

Kitty was strong-willed, determined, and resilient—qualities she proudly passed down to many of her children and that will continue through future generations. She was truly one of a kind and will be remembered for her quick wit, warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She loved to love.

Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kitty is survived by her children Robert Counts, Jeff Counts, Van (Paula) Counts, Kelly Counts, Shannon (Scott) DeWeese, Jason (Zorah) Counts.

She was  cherished grandmother to 20 grandchildren:

Jimmy (Crystal) Counts, Carrie (Jamie) Norville, Brett (Karen) Counts, Jaime Graham, Kesha (Shawn) Whitley, Brandi (Josiah) Rawson, Joey Rupe, Weston (McKayla) Counts, Codi Counts, Vada Counts, Jessie (Chad) Whitlatch, Tamecka Nave, Clayton (Katie) Wood, Nikita Wood, Michael DeWeese, Shelby DeWeese, Cameron Roush, Gage Counts, Bradley Counts.

She was blessed with 25 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. In addition she is survived by her sister Shirley Tipton, brother Chuck Salser and a daughter in law Ida Counts several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Counts, sons, Victor “Reg” Counts and Jim Counts, daughter in law, Anita Counts, grandson, Brandon Counts, her parents Anthony Salser and Eva Shields. In addition siblings, James Woods, William Woods, Henry Salser, Robert Salser, Nial Salser, Ray Salser, Eileen Hayes, Dorothy Harden

A memorial service will be held on Friday July 31st at 12:00pm at Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home located at 590 East Main Street, Pomeroy, Ohio. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service (10-12:00pm). Burial will follow at Meigs Memorial Gardens.
